FOCUS: Platfarm | Turning precision agriculture insights into action, simply | Platfarm uses smartphone technology to unlock the benefits of precision agriculture and help farmers take advantage, simply.
Challenge: Low-cost tools for precision agriculture did not exist, so with Oli’s technology background he set out to solve his problem and Platfarm was created.
Platfarm acts like a farming satellite navigation system enabling any tractor to carry out precision agriculture tasks without the need to spend thousands of dollars retrofitting precision equipment to existing tractors or buying new tractors to complete the tasks.
Platfarm loads soil and vigour maps, allowing the user to define prescription zones, and input application rates. Then as the grower passes through different zones defined on their property, it will precisely show the location, tracks where they have been, and tells them when to start, stop or change work rates. Platfarm algorithms stabilise the GPS signal and provide reliability and accuracy, allowing it to operate on every smart device that growers and contractors already own and know how to use.
The Platfarm team have collaborated with leading vineyards across Australia’s varied wine regions, imagery providers and agronomy groups, to optimise operations. Two years of testing and iteration has helped get to the heart of growers’ requirements.
